Announcements for Students Who Are Preparing to Become Teachers

Prospective Post-Baccalaureate Students Seeking Teacher Certification

Texas State University-San Marcos offers a traditional teacher education preparation program, requiring students to complete university-based coursework, field experiences in the public schools, one semester of full-time, unpaid student teaching, and state mandated certification examinations in order to be recommended for a teaching certificate. Information sessions regarding the teacher preparation program are held throughout each semester. In order to be accepted into a teacher preparation program in the College of Education, you must first attend an information session. Teacher Recruitment Program

The Teacher Recruitment Program (TRP) is designed for mid-career adults who hold a baccalaureate degree and desire an accelerated program to attain teacher certification. The deadline for Spring 2010 application is October 1, 2009. The deadline for Fall 2010 application is March 2010. Teacher Certification Exam Information

Texas law requires every person seeking educator certification to perform satisfactorily on comprehensive examinations. The purpose of these examinations is to ensure that each educator has the necessary content and professional knowledge to perform effectively in Texas public schools. TExES Practice Exam Information

Texas law requires that individuals seeking to become teachers in Texas must pass the TExES in order to become certified. In order to receive a barcode to take the TExES, one must first take the required practice exams. EC-4 and EC-6 candidates take the required TExES practice exams the semester prior to student teaching. Secondary candidates must pass the real TExES content exam PRIOR to student teaching and may take the 8-12 PPR during the student teaching semester. TExES Practice Exams are given at RRHEC in the following areas: EC-4 PPR, 4-8 PPR, 8-12 PPR, EC-12 PPR, EC-4 Bilingual Generalist, 4-8 Generalist, 4-8 Eng/LA/Rdg/SS, 4-8 Eng/LA/Rdg, 4-8 Math, 4-8 Science, 4-8 Math/Science, Generic Special Education. Fall 2009 TExES Practice Examinations will be held at RRHEC, 9:30 - 12:00, Avery 256 on Sept. 26th, Oct. 10th, and November 14th. Attention CMED and TRP Students

If you are planning to graduate in August 2009, with your Masters degree, you must pass a written comprehensive exam. The comprehensive exam will be administered in San Marcos and at RRHEC on July 6, 2009. The elementary comprehensive will be given 9:00 - 1:00 at RRHEC. To register for the comprehensive exam, elementary education majors contact Dr. Barbara Davis, bd02@txstate.edu, Secondary Education majors contact Dr. Gene Martin, gm01@txstate.edu; Special Education majors contact Dr. Larry Wheeler, lw06@txstate.edu..
