About Us

What is the RRHEC?

Avery Building Early MorningThe Round Rock Higher Education Center is Texas State University’s campus in Round Rock. Texas State University, Austin Community College (ACC), and Temple College at Taylor (TCAT) partner to offer full Associate, Bachelor’s, and Master’s programs at convenient times and close to where students live and work. The RRHEC sits on 101 acres in northwest Round Rock and is the site where Texas State University-San Marcos will continue to build and grow a university campus to meet the needs of the Central Texas community. The Avery Building currently houses all programs and student services. The second building will house a nursing program and will open in Fall 2010.

The RRHEC is located on University Blvd. in northeast Round Rock and can be easily reached by traveling on either IH35, Highway 130, or SH 1460. Classes are conveniently offered throughout the day and night. Texas State’s Bachelor’s and Master’s programs are offered after 5:00 p.m. with the majority starting at 6:30 p.m. giving the student plenty of time to leave work and arrive at the RRHEC campus. ACC offers Associate programs throughout the day and evening. Students living closer to Taylor can take classes from Temple College in Taylor.

Through this partnership Texas State University is able to offer the upper division requirements for 9 Bachelor’s majors and all the requirements for 12 Master’s programs. Students in these majors can apply, get financial aid information, get advised, and take all their courses in Round Rock. Most programs take about a three year period to complete if students go year-round. Students taking Texas State classes are taught by many of the same professors who teach in San Marcos so the classes are of the same rigor and quality as the classes in San Marcos. Students enrolled in Round Rock earn a degree from Texas State University-San Marcos.

ACC offers the general education core requirements for Texas State’s majors as well as other associate degree programs. ACC students can also apply and be advised at the RRHEC. ACC students earn Associate degrees from Austin Community College.
